History

The history of the Optimist Club of St. Louis begins in 1916 when a group of businessmen met to share contacts and encourage one another in difficult financial times. For almost a century, the Optimist Club of St. Louis has provided volunteer and financial support to make a positive difference in children’s lives. In the mid-1900’s, the club purchased a building and operated a boy’s club on the near north side.

For over 106 years the Optimist Club of St. Louis has maintained a tradition of community service. The Optimist Club of St. Louis supports many local youth programs and organizations through financial and volunteer contributions. 

Leadership

Over the years, the Optimist Club of St. Louis has been the home of many influential community leaders. Past Club Presidents include Cyrus Wilmore and H. B. Deal. St. Louis Cardinals general manager Branch Rickey was the club’s president in 1928, just to name a few.
